Match ends, Chelsea Women 4, Everton Women 0.
Two goals in two minutes from Bethany England helped Chelsea beat Everton to move above the Toffees and up to second in the Women’s Super League.
Ji So-yun opened the scoring with a fine half-volley, taking advantage of Everton goalkeeper Sandy MacIver’s inability to kick clear under pressure.
A low finish from England, which she quickly followed up with a close-range header, made it 3-0 after 75 minutes.
Pernille Harder added a fourth in the seventh minute of injury time.
For Everton, their first league defeat of the season came just a week after they were beaten by Manchester City in the Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley.
In a first half of a number of wasted opportunities, it was England’s block on an attempted MacIver clearance after 15 minutes that allowed Ji to lash home the game’s opening goal.
In response, Izzy Christiansen weakly flicked a first-time shot into the grasp of Ann-Katrin Berger after meeting a fine cross from Hayley Raso.
Chelsea had two chances to double their advantage before the break, England putting the first into the side netting after being forced wide in a one-on-one with MacIver before an unmarked Harder headed wide at the back post from a corner.
England had a shot well saved by MacIver after the break, but there was no denying last season’s WSL player of the season as she made it 2-0 with a neat low finish following a clever flicked pass from Melanie Leupolz.
Quick reactions from the forward moments later put the result beyond doubt, with England heading home on the rebound after an Erin Cuthbert shot hit the post.
England was narrowly off target in search of a hat-trick soon after and Sam Kerr went close after coming off the bench, while Damaris Egurrola hit the post with a header for Everton before Harder completed the victory.
